2021: Year in review
2021 - another year for the history books. After a somewhat [very] turbulent 2020 for many with various lockdowns across the world, we were so ready to take on the new year. We had lots of exciting things planned both as a business and for the development of our apps...
...and then more lockdowns happened in January, including in the UK where our HQ is based.

That being said, another national lockdown wasn’t going to stop us and 2021 was still a really exciting year. We started our biggest marketing campaign to date, we’ve hit huge milestones, our team has grown internationally and we have a new company board, we’ve raised money for charity, finally got to have the team back together at HQ and lots more.
So, before we share too many more spoilers, grab a cuppa and some biscuits (or a tin of chocolates - let’s get festive) and let’s reflect back on the year that’s passed, starting with some 2021 stats…
We’ve reached over 72 million sign ins, in over 8000 sites, with over 9000 iPads connected, and over 80,000 active companion app users across over 50 countries, with a community of over 4500 customers.
You’re probably familiar with the saying “start as you mean to go on” - well, that’s exactly what we did this year. Q1 was a busy one but there were two things that definitely stood out.
Firstly, the year was kicked off with us on the screens in homes around the UK - our first TV advert! We wanted our first TV ad to be fun and incorporate everything about Sign In App - our personality, our community, what the solution does, and of course that “however you sign in, there’s only one Sign In App”. We think it did just that. If you haven’t seen it yet, give it a watch below.
Q1 also saw the launch of Spaces - our first feature add-on for Sign In App which introduced a smart and flexible desk and meeting room booking solution. We recognised that the workplace was changing and more businesses were using our apps to manage their hybrid workforce, so Spaces felt like the perfect add-on to bring multiple workplace management processes into one solution.

Q2 saw our HQ have a makeover! After spending a year working from home, we wanted to create a space that felt refreshing and inspired creativity for when the team wanted to work from the office. The makeover saw new break out areas, a lot of greenery (only one plant hasn’t survived so far *clap*) and fun accessories.
We were also busy adding lots of improvements to our existing features such as Spaces and introduced some new additions to our Companion app, including sign in/out reminders and signing in deliveries from your smartphone.

Q3 was full of fun. A lot of restrictions had been lifted so the team could finally get back together and we really made the most of it. In July, some of the team dusted off their running trainers and got wet and muddy in The Wolf Run, a 10km obstacle course, to raise awareness and funds for The Lowdown.
Earlier in the year, we’d hit one of our biggest milestones to date: 50 million sign ins. We’d usually celebrate achievements like this with a team lunch but with that not being possible at the time and missing the opportunity to do this for various milestones over 18 months, we decided to really make a celebration once we could finally get back together. So in July, we threw a 50 million party. There was a coffee van, stonebaked pizzas, some games, even more food and a whole lot of laughs - definitely one of the highlights of 2021!
Towards the end of Q3, we were very pleased to announce a strategic investment from leading growth equity firm, PSG. This investment will allow us to accelerate our growth strategy in North America, support our product growth and grow our customer experience teams globally; we’re excited to see what 2022 will bring with our new partnership.
Some of our feature updates in Q3 included introducing a reset time for Spaces to allow time for cleaning down meeting rooms and block list which enables you to take even more control over managing entry requirements on your site.
We started Q4 with a new release that aims to improve health and safety more than ever before. At the start of October, we released Safety+ - a series of features that put site safety at the forefront. The initial release introduced shared evacuation reports and Safety Check which is designed to help you manage digital health certificates and site entry requirements.

Some of our new US team came over to HQ and so we welcomed them in true British style with a traditional afternoon tea. Another great day having the team together in the barn; we’ll never take these for granted again!
We ended Q4 with some more enhancements to existing features including Spaces booking reports and opting out of location data for mobile sign in. We also hit another milestone - 8,000 sites (and counting)!
That wraps up our year in review. What a year 2021 was, and 2022 is only going to be better. We’re always so grateful for our growing Sign In App community and cannot thank you enough for continuing to support us over the years and for joining this journey with us.
